With an ear for a great melody and the storyteller's insight for spinning a compelling yarn, Austin-based Steve Pack puts both and more, on display with his fine debut CD, "Flesh & Bone." Like fellow Texas troubadours Steve Earle or Robert Earl Keen, Pack's work is based in country-rock but, truly, his songs transcend such narrow definition. Tunes like "Baby Hold On" and the rocking title track, "Flesh & Bone," feature catchy, radio-ready choruses that would be at home on multiple radio formats; "Bowman Ridge" a song about Pack's Texas roots, employs delicate cello interludes that defy simple categorization while the opening number, "Like a Dylan," is reminiscent of master songwriter Tom Petty's mid-'80s output, with its balanced, guitar-led fire. Pack's sure sense of purpose is elsewhere aided by a keen attention to detail, reflected in his band's sparkling accompaniment and the evocative arrangements that render the album both contemporary and timeless in scope. "Flesh & Bone" ably describes the organic and deep-rooted spirit of Steve Pack's debut CD, but it's the Texas blood in this terrific CD that will make its mark with listeners.

"You're Country Now" is a terrific album from the talented Jessica Shepherd Band. It is an album filled with classic honky-tonk and good old Country music songs with an emphasis on twangy vocals, western guitar sounds, and the fiddle. In the song, "Humpty Dumpty," Jessica sings a pleasant and leisurely fun Country song about the classic children's tale of Humpty Dumpty's infamous situation on his wall, featuring great fiddle and guitar solos. Another song, "Soldiers of Love," we get a more earnest and edgy song that tells a story through a Country/Blues backbone beat and evocative lyrics. The track, "Five Year Fling," has a smooth and flowing beat, strong and emotive vocals, and a charming Honky Tonk piano solo giving this catchy tune it's delightful and attractive appeal. This album is for all Country music fans that enjoy a fresh and innovating classical approach to the genre and features a talented female vocalist. "You're All Wrong-EP" by HolliePollock has a cool alternative sound to it while also having the Classic Rock feel of Zepplin to it as well. The vocals are just as gritty as the instrumentation and lyrics which gives this album an abundance of intensity. The title track, "You're All Wrong" with its dynamic drums and talented bass emulates both lyrically and musically an expression of loneliness that's identifiable with everyone. "13th Sun" is another talent-dense track on the EP with strong and solid guitar work that embellishes the lyrical vocal. The music is on the forefront while the vocals linger behind in an almost spooky, but interesting way. This CD contains 5 tracks of intense Classic Rock music spanning this bands performance of outstanding musical capability. If any kind of Rock music is your preference, then this EP is definitely well worth hearing.

"All Night Blue" by Paul Tobin is a well-mixed, great sounding, and edgy Urban Folk/Soul album. Tobin claims to be a fan of Johnny Cash and it shows, not in his style but in his voice and wandering soul. He does cover the classic "Walk the Line" but the slower, acoustic track has such a different tone and a great harmony that Tobin made it a song all his own. He even tries out some old roots Blues on the track "How Come" and grabs the listener with his strong soulful voice. Another notable track is the story-telling tune "Time Flies" as Tobin shows off his melodic vocals with heartfelt tenderness. "All Night Blue" is a well-crafted Urban Folk/Soul album with just enough edge to please fans of Bruce Cockburn and Johnny Cash and is well worth hearing.

"Del Castillo" by Del Castillo (Latin Artist from Texas(TX))

The Latin Rock fusion band Del Castillo and their self-titled album is a thorough blend of styles from all around Latin America and Spain coupled with sultry, romantic, and even tragic lyrics. All thirteen tracks will pull the listener into dramatic sounds of flamenco guitars and the lively beats of conga and bongo drums. "Boricua del Cielo" is a flamenco salsa crossover that opens the CD giving a perfect introduction to the style of this band. The song speaks of an enchanting woman who seems to have 'magic' in the way that she dances. The harmony in this track brings a lot of life to the lyrics and it's near impossible to not dance or at least want to when listening. "Anybody Wanna" is a Spanglish cumbia-rock combo that has an easy going sound throughout the track, but invites the listener to dance at the same time. A standard drum set is prominent in this track and the lead singer's strong vocal range is fully showcased. Where the Gypsy Kings and Los Lonely Boys met is where Del Castillo was created. This is a CD that can and will be enjoyed by aficionados of multiple musical tastes.

The new album, "Blue Eyed Son" by the talented Blueyed Son is an uplifting, powerful Pop album. This album plays like a series of anthems, with vocals crooning over either an acoustic guitar or keyboard. Many of the songs swell between quiet and loud, giving an emotional feeling to the album. With the strength of a Kings of Leon song, the track "Long Way Off" is a particularly powerful song with strong and emotional vocals and lyrics. On the other end of the spectrum, "The Lonesome Death of Pablo Aguilar" is a much simpler story-based track with a nice acoustic guitar accompaniment that embellishes the moving lyrics. Start to finish, "Blue Eyed Son" brings a lot of inspiration and a lot of power with its rootsy and melodic tonality. WARNING! EXPLICIT LYRICS.

"Written Roads" by The Shells is a strong and powerful Alternative Country/Rock album. The CD, being Alternative Country, fuses in many Rock style elements with melodies that are pure Country in which this creates a hard-hitting and fully enjoyable listen. The opening track, "All I Need is Time" stays true to the band's down-home Country roots both lyrically and melodically. The harmonies in this track fits perfectly while each note played by the acoustic guitar complements the vocals as the emotional lyrics are of pain and the need and will to recover. The song, "I Will Believe You" relies on a progressive tempo and ambient notes that puts the listener in a smooth trance. Country is well-showcased in this album and for those fans who love bands like the Dixie Chicks and singers with the same range and tone must experience the exceptional compositions and lead vocals/harmonies of "Written Roads."

"Sleep When I Die" by L'NEE (R&B Artist from California(CA))

L'NEE's latest release is called, "Sleep When I Die," an appropriate title since one senses this girl would definitely choose the dance floor over her bed. L'NEE'S CD is a blend of urban R&B, Hip-Hop, and Reggaeton, all produced for loud playback to keep your hips shaking and feet moving. In "Dj Make Em Move," L'NEE sings her story in a clear and poppy style over a gritty and aggressive Reggaeton beat. For "Sleep When I Die," the album's title track, we get to hear her rhyming skills as she raps about her career over a stomping hip-hop instrumental. On "Chilly," L'NEE shows off her vocal talents, singing over a more reserved urban R&B rhythm (but one that is still very danceable). At times this CD reminds one of old TLC, as L'NEE likes to employ some 90's style sounds which she combines with her modern edge. For people who enjoy dance parties, or maybe just making their car feel like a club, L'NEE's "Sleep When I Die" CD just might be something you would enjoy.

The first thing that comes to mind when you start spinning this album is sitting on a porch in the heartland of America. Hollis sings with a solid Country twang while his songs are splashed with rootsy Country and early Blues music. His vocals complement the laid back lyrics which bring out interesting melodies with down home Southern qualities. Tracks like "Honey I Still Miss You" feature some nice embellishments of fiddle, harmonica, and slide guitar. Other tracks are driven by clean rhythm guitar and a quick drum beat as you will hear on the song, "Gonna Catch a Wild One." Overall, "American Spirit" has all the elements of a great Alternative Country album.

Colorado-based songwriter Kelly Moon McGinnis delivers a one-two punch of blues and rock on his latest effort, "Moontime." McGinnis is a well-known staple in the Denver area and has opened for famed acts such as Big Head Todd & the Monsters and Leon Redbone. The most likeable thing about this album is McGinnis's vocals and the way in which he delivers them. In "Your Wishing Well," listeners get to hear his gritty singing voice, very similar to that of Tom Waits or Bob Dylan. McGinnis's songwriting also stays true to the blues roots and features some exciting guitar work as well. Another standout track is "God Is Love," which has a tropical feel to it and is very reminiscent of late 70's George Harrison work. This album is a must-have for any Waits fan or anyone who loves that nitty-gritty blues sound.

The considerable strengths of Movin' Melvin Brown's "Just a Little Country" CD, are due as much to the legacies of soul legends like Clarence Carter and Solomon Burke, as to the country artists and songs that ostensibly inspired this album. Indeed, Brown's Country has little to do with contemporary Nashville sounds, but instead is informed with the deep soul stylings of Soul music forebears and genre-crossing '70's-era performers like Tom T. Hall and Don Williams. Reaching back 20-some years for a fine cover of The Judds' "Love Can Build a Bridge," or even further for his excellent rendering of Buck Owens' "Together Again," Movin' Melvin shows what he can do with a standard. But his originals, like "I'm Gonna Love You" and "A World Made of Love," have equal authenticity, but far more soulfulness. Other standouts include the terrific "Strawberry Wine" and the very-Arthur Alexander-like "Give Me Time." The multi-talented Movin' Melvin Brown is definitely a musical throw-back; eschewing over-the-top production values for honest, stripped-down arrangements that put the song front and center, "Just a Little Country" is a great CD for old school southern soul-meets-country fans.

Over time, Hannah McNeil will no doubt read many a review and article about herself that references Hannah Montana. How can it be avoided? Like uber-popular Miley Cyrus, who plays the household-name character on TV and in movies, McNeil is a young, country-pop singer-songwriter with terrific original songs, and the delivery to make them unforgettable. With a style of writing and performing that blends the grass-roots charm of Patty Loveless with the contemporary grit of Gretchen Wilson, McNeil's self-titled debut CD is a knockout of one hook-filled tune after another. "What Am I Getting Up For" opens the album with an impassioned, up-tempo blast of identity crisis featuring a chorus tailor-made for radio. "Peace of Mind" is a fun, hip hop-influenced romp that's refreshingly literate and polished. "Celebrate Life," though, is the real standout here; like Lee Ann Womack's mega-hit, "I Hope you Dance," "Celebrate Life" combines the rarest of sing-along-worthy melodies with a message of self-empowerment and joy-of-life passion that crosses genres and generations. As surely as Hannah McNeil will have to live with references to that other Hannah for awhile, it's a safe bet that if she keeps making albums like "Hannah McNeil," soon enough McNeil will be the new standard for country singers named Hannah.

Featured artists who are truly talented yet under-recognized are hard to come by. It seems that in today’s reality TV world, musicians are most likely found on popular shows such as American Idol or America’s Got Talent. Unfortunately, that leaves little room for the musical talent that comes with years of experience and industry know-how. John Batdorf is no exception and is this week’s featured artist.

John Batdorf began his career back in the 70’s becoming partners with Mark Rodney and forming the band Batdorf & Rodney. This was a time when famous artists’ like James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet told tales of family, love, relationships, vacations, and even what they had for dinner. While the 70’s produced legendary hits, it was also easier to get in the performing industry making for a multi-million dollar profit for the record labels. Unfortunately, the labels didn’t always look out for the performers. The industry was booming though it was poorly regulated. Many artists made little or no profits during the first years of being signed while the record labels took the credit and the money of many number one hits. The 70’s were a difficult time to catch frequent plays on mainstream radio. John Batdorf unfortunately fell to this circus-like arena.

While Batdorf & Rodney may have had musical tracks that could easily compete with those of Jefferson Starship and The Eagles, their music wasn’t promoted as good as it could have been, and the team soon broke up. John Batdorf didn’t walk away from his love for music. Instead, unlike other unrecognized talented musicians, John went on to compose Promised Land, Touched by an Angel, and provided back-up vocals for super successful musicians such as Rod Stewart and David Lee Roth. Even though John wasn’t producing number one tracks, his love for music never waffled and he continued to write and sing hoping that one-day his music would be heard once again. It wasn’t until thirty years later that John would reunite with Mark, producing a newer album complete with the knowledge and experience gained during their three-decade hiatus. John Batdorf’s new music provides the comfort and tales of the Woodstock era while addressing the social concerns of today. Additionally, John Batdorf’s albums provide those who love 70’s music with the same feel yet different songs. Once you have listened to the same songs for almost forty years, they become monotonous (though still great). John Batdorf’s music provides a glimpse into the past, a haven for those who lived there complete with new and improved melodies, which soothe the soul.

Today, John Batdorf is back and better than ever. The song “What D’Ya Got” touches on today’s social concerns and economic difficulties and is perhaps the reason that I elected to feature him as this week’s musical artist. As with many of John’s other songs, “What D’Ya Got” has a story that is heartfelt which can deeply connect with listeners across any age, gender or ethnicity and easily appeals to fans of most any musical genre. It takes a multitude of talent to combine a satirical tone, serious concerns, love and hardship with a splash of comedy and realism. John Batdorf has accomplished this within his four-minute song “What D’Ya Got”. This song is a bit of country, a splash of Indie, and a whole lot of feeling. It is unique, which is why John Batdorf has an age-old core following that has loved him since his first albums during the 70’s. While John Batdorf’s music is quite popular among the XM radio channels, once again it hasn’t hit mainstream FM stations. This is quite perplexing to anyone who hears his music. “What D’Ya Got” would have made it as a number one hit already if famous artist such as Toby Keith, Allan Jackson or Tim McGraw were performing it. This is not because either of them can sing it any better or perform it any differently, it is simply because John Batdorf hasn’t gained the notoriety of the aforementioned performers. With that said, I know that once you listen to John Batdorf’s music, his masterful lyrics will ring in your ears during the silence reminding you that true happiness and joy reaches far beyond materialistic pleasures.

Navarro and Stamps' intriguing album, "Nightlife: A Pop-Opera in Three Acts," with its random and all-too-real sound bites of desultory social intercourse interwoven between and within the framework of its 23 tracks, finds the musicians delving into the dullness of everyday life with sounds & structures that belie the banality of the "night of serious drinking" this album entails. Navarro & Stamps' vocal & instrumental pieces rely on electronic keyboards and sound effects to explore and delineate the moods and states of mind evoked in the erstwhile narrative. Musically, the soundscape ranges from the cartoon-like "Everything is Now," to the no-frills electro-pop "Life is Taking for F--king Ever," to the enigmatically dissonant "Reprise & Postlude," recalling artists as varied and diverse as They Might be Giants and Tom Waits. Taken as a whole, Navarro & Stamps' "Nightlife: A Pop-Opera In Three Acts" is both a provocative and satisfying piece of work that demands, and, more importantly, rewards multiple listens.

Syncopated drum beats and alluring strings gives "Break It Down" a smooth, easy flowing texture. Also take note of the simple one note piano pattern as it adds an air of mystery to this song. Mixing it up and adding a guest rapper to the melodic vocals really gives a Hip-Hop edge to "One Way." The vocals are a highlight of this release, with Gandolfi delivering strong lead vocals throughout, supported by tasteful harmonies. "Beautiful Misery" opens the album beautifully, with acoustic guitar and soaring vocal harmonies emphasizing the strong hook and melody of the song. "Endangered Heart" features an enchanting piano intro coupled with a mysterious, sincere vocal from Gandolfi. The production is transparent and clean, providing a product that is ready for mainstream radio. "Stranger Than Fiction" is a catchy, memorable song with interesting rhythmic changes. "The Poet & The Muse" is a deep, affectionate track with lyrical guitar lines and another passionate vocal from Gandolfi, again supported wonderfully by the background vocals. "Stir The Menagerie" by Paul Vincent Gandolfi is a well-written, well-performed indie pop album that highlights the sheer talent of the fantastic singer/songwriter. Paul has been to many places in his musical journey, including bands, musicals, and film scores. What comes from this effort is an intimate taste of great vocal performances, thought provoking lyrics, and fine arrangements. The album sounds fantastic, with vocals at the forefront, as Gandolfi has a very distinct voice that is, in turn, complimented well by the arrangements. One highlight is "Bleed," which opens with a gentle melody and evolves into an ear grabbing lyrical performance. You'll remember the words to this one in no time. "Show Me" is another standout that features a delicate piano progression and gives listeners an intimate look at Paul. A cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" wraps things up and is the powerful finish to a powerful album. If you enjoy indie/pop/rock music, you will not be disappointed with "Stir the Menagerie."

The inescapable lesson learned by Susan Boyle's meteoric rise to international YouTube fame is that singing talent is not the exclusive domain of attractive, expertly-coiffed 20-somethings belting out staid and redundant songs for a TV audience of musical reactionaries. The recently released disc, "The Paul Cook Project" is an album of original songs performed by various (unknown) singers from Abilene, Texas, drives that lesson home over the course of 15 tuneful, well-crafted, and meaning-filled songs that ache with sincerity and positivism. From the lush-pop strains of "Making Memories" to the contemporary country pulse of the Anytown, USA, narrative, "Light It Up"; from the self-empowerment piano ballad "I Can Win" to the inspirational strains of "Our Time," "The Paul Cook Project" melds a diversity of musical forms in a cohesive collection, thanks mainly to Cook's unerring knack for accessible and memorable melodies. Underscoring the entire CD is a solemn sense of Christian faith (made overt on songs such as, "Don't Run Away" and "Fruit of the Spirit"), but the spirituality is inclusive, not heavy-handed or preachy. "The Paul Cook Project" is a very listenable, fun (check out the Roger Miller-like ditty, "I Do What I Do") uplifting and, most of all, engaging CD of well-conceived, well-played & (gasp!) well-sung songs by the guy next door and an anonymous – but talented, community of singers.

"Face In Your Crowd" is the excellent pop rock debut from Texas singer/songwriter Jonathan Adam. Adam (stage name of Jay Arseno) delivers a great vocal performance reminiscent of many of his influences, including Better Than Ezra and Vertical Horizon, and the entire album features outstanding vocal layering and harmonies. His songs have a solid rock foundation with great guitar riffs and solid beats, and Adam fuses it nicely with great pop elements, including electronica keyboards, whistles, flute solos, and Adam's stellar pop vocal performance. The songs themselves are melodic and catchy, heartfelt and real, and have great lyrics about love and life, often in rhyming verse. "Face In Your Crowd" is well-produced and sounds clean and professional with a great balance of vocals and instruments. "15 Minutes" is a fast-paced arrangement with matching frantic electronic drums and lyrics about the proverbial fifteen minutes of fame. "Cinematic Tragedy" has catchy and metaphorical lyrics and excellent musical transitions with electronica elements. "Face In Your Crowd" is truly an impressive debut from Jonathan Adam with its original pop rock arrangements, electronica elements, and powerful vocals. Fans of pop rock with a great modern rock foundation should definitely pick this one up.

"Ride" is the impressive sophomore effort of Texas country rock outfit Kyle Hunt Band. The band plays standard country rock instruments – drum, bass, acoustic and electric guitar. They are a very tight band and create solid arrangements. Kyle Hunt attributes an excellent country vocal reminiscent of Pat Green and Bob Seger that well-fits the arrangements. The resulting songs have a lot of energy and extreme danceability as Hunt sings about riding motorcycles, honky tonks, drinking, and women. "Ride" is well-produced and ready for radio airplay, which it has already received throughout the state of Texas. "Drinkin' Class" is a fun song about blue collar work, going to bars afterwards, the class unity that bars bring and features great lyrics and instrumentation. "Queen of the Honky Tonks" is the first single off of "Ride" and already receiving radio play, it features a great blues rock arrangement, fun lyrics, and a catchy chorus. Overall, "Ride" is a great album for a honky tonk/party atmosphere worthy of radio play on country radio stations throughout the U.S. Fans of country rock and superb male country vocals should check out the Kyle Hunt Band.

"Let It Go" by Fishing With Dynamite (Country Artist from Georgia (GA))

Charlie Daniels once said "The South's Gonna Do it Again" and it very much has with the recently released CD, "Let it Go" by the country rock group Fishing With Dynamite. The Southern Rock genre has had a gaping hole in it every since the tragic lost of Lynyrd Skynyrd's front man Ronnie Van Zant, but Fishing With Dynamite is gladly taking the reins of contemporary southern-fused rock. Give "Gone and Faded" a good listen and you'll know exactly what we mean. The band oozes Charlie Daniels with the use of violin as the primary solo instrument and kicks it up a notch with the rocking vibes of the band, The Outlaws. They also tone it down a bit and play some heartfelt country tunes on songs like "For Granted" and "Hank, I Hope You Were Right." Also, be sure to listen to the excellent slide guitar work on "Backwoods Man." Any fan of Charlie Daniels or Toby Keith will love "Let it Go" as this disc is filled with good old country rock.

"Take My Soul" by Shak (World/New Age Artist from Washington (WA))

Instrumentalist and songwriter, Shak, has written a very unique love story on his latest album, "Take My Soul." Although it is all instrumental, Shak does an excellent job depicting a couple's blossoming and sometimes tumultuous relationship through song. Listen to "A New Dawn," a track which screams of hope and curiosity, much like any new relationship. Along the way, the couple goes through extreme highs and lows, all documented through the creative mind of Shak. Sometimes the couple's relationship is doing well as heard on "Close to My Heart" and sometimes not, which "I Am Sorry" clearly portrays. Shak does an outstanding job composing his well written emotional feelings through melody and instrumentation about what most average couples all go through. If you are looking for a really interesting CD and you love instrumentals, then you won't be disappointed when you listen to "Take My Soul."

"Solo Parts" is an acoustic-driven folk rock album from talented singer/songwriter Chris Holiman. This album is filled with moody songs that reflect the time and place in which he wrote the songs – during a dreary European winter just after his father's death. Through great lyrical imagery and a sorrowful delivery reminiscent of Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Holiman invokes his sadness with each note. Though the arrangements on "Solo Parts" mostly rely on Holiman's acoustic guitar performance, the album also features nice electric solos from Holiman, solid work from Tom Larkins on drums, and great cello and stand-up bass work from Calexico's Joey Burns . Together they have crafted twelve great folk rock tracks that do Holiman's lyrics justice. This album is well-produced and sounds professional and clean. "My Father's Son" is an acoustic tribute song that tells the sad tale of Holiman's strained relationship with his father, concluding, "Sometimes I try to hide it/But I can't deny/I'm my father's son." "Leaving Europe Today" is another sad acoustic track that features Joey Burns' haunting cello progressions in the background. Overall, "Solo Parts" is an impressive solo debut from a well-rounded musician. Fans of moody folk rock and great singer/songwriters, check out Chris Holiman.

"You're Really Bugging Me Now" is an excellent piano blues/country gospel album from Clint Morgan, a talented musician with a great sense of humor. The entire album breathes Morgan's personality by combining secular and non-secular songs, Morgan's takes on gospel classics, and intelligently humorous songs about women and Wal-Mart. The arrangements center around Morgan's intricate piano work true to the blues, early rock & roll, and boogie woogie genres, though they also feature nice beats and some great blues guitar work. Morgan's vocals on the country gospel tracks are reminsicent to the crooning bass vocals of Johnny Cash, while the blues tracks sound like a fusion between Cash and Stevie Ray Vaughn. "You're Really Bugging Me Now" is well-produced, and it sounds polished and ready for extended play. "The Wonder of You" is a blues rock track with a great arrangement featuring organ, piano, guitar solos and some great, humorous lyrics about married life. "Garbage Man" immediately follows the standard gospel track "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and features hilarious lyrics about Morgan's wife running around with the garbage man and the milk man and has an excellent piano solo. "You're Really Bugging Me Now" is a great album from an extremely interesting personality and should be picked up by any piano blues fan.

Howce Clemens brilliantly fuses the sounds of pop, rock, and R&B on his new EP, titled "Each Lifetime Is A Voyage." Clemens' voice throughout the entire album has a musky Johnny Cash vibe to it. That country vocal tone shines through on numbers like "Please Take Care" and "Little Darlin'." Taking a nod from another rocker band fused with country, the Eagles, Clemens delivers a wonderful piece of music with the title track, "Each Lifetime Is a Voyage." "Where We Come From" by Ray William Roldan (Country Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

If Tom Petty ever went full-on country, then it would most likely sound something like Ray William Roldan's latest effort "Where We Come From." Roldan does a terrific job fusing country with pop-riddled vocal melodies and honky-tonk guitar riffs. There are some typical, yet well played country moments on this disc, particularly on songs like "My Country Rocks" and "Cowboy Cadillac." However, what make this album shine are tunes like "Back to Texas," which strongly resemble some of the later Traveling Wilburys work. Another nod to that sound comes by way of Roldan's vocals which emulate Jeff Lynne and cult country legend J.J. Cale. Ray William Roldan's "Where We Come From" is a very enjoyable disc whether you are a diehard country fan and/or love that Americana/pop style.

"Save Yourself" is the impressive debut EP from alternative pop rock / shoegaze outfit Riviera. Riviera advertises themselves as "classy music for classy people," and it's hard to disagree with this concept. This EP is filled with good rock music, with a great pop vocal performance that is at once familiar and distinct and great arrangements that breech typical rock expectations. Riviera's lyrics are strong, poetic, and often direct, offering outlooks on life in general from a down-but-not-out perspective. "Hollywood" opens with the lyrics, "Leave your old life behind, this is your new world," and the listener at once knows the direction and meaning of the song. "Save Yourself" is well-produced, and the vocals and arrangements both sound great. The title track, "Save Yourself," has good lyrics, a lo-fi arrangement, and the simple chorus, "Save yourself/From yourself/Save yourself/From yourself." "Division" features a great arrangement that is layered with a horn section and a fantastic guitar solo, while also supplying strong emotional lyrics and vocals. Riviera has created a promising debut EP that leaves the listener on the edge of their seat in anticipation of a full-length release. If you are a fan of classy alternative pop and shoegaze, pick up this EP.
